CHILDREN
NEED
NATURE
At Halton Hills Nature Immersion School we offer a rich learning environment that supports nature based connectivity. We thrive to assist in developing responsible and respectable global citizens. Children who attend our school will learn about the importance of living with kindness, and the value in expressing gratitude towards nature and also, towards to one another.
Learning about nature at our school means children have the opportunity to explore environmental sciences, understand earth-based connectivities and in turn, develop the skills and habits required to be ambassadors to our land.
Children will learn freely in nature. Learning in nature means our teachers find authentic ways to deliver curriculum through natural resources (i.e., we may study symmetry and geometric shapes and properties in nature by looking at the hexagon in honeycombs, the golden ratio in flowers, etc.).

Children who attend our Nature Immersion School will authentically and organically explore our (fully outdoor) forest-based curriculum, where the learning is done with and through nature;
i.e.,mathematics is a fundamental part of the architecture of nature and children deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts when they are exploring through the lens that nature provides us. Within our nature immersion model, children explore various subject specific concepts (i.e., STEM, literacy, journaling, art expression, geography topics, bird calling, bushcraft, mud-kitchen sensory experiments, singing, team building games etc.) where all the learning and experiences are done through nature.

Research and studies show that nature increases creativity, reduces stress and boosts natural-immunity! Learning and playing in the forest, assist children in developing problem solving skills, building self-esteem, and gaining knowledge about many various diverse topics.
Time spent in the forest will also provide children with plenty of fresh air, physical strength, mental clarity, balance, creativity and it encourages imaginative play in a group setting or individually.

As nature in itself promotes peace and harmony, children who spend a good amount of time outside are more likely to foster positive thoughts and growth mindsets. For children, nature is the ultimate classroom, with its diverse structures, smells, textures, and creatures of all shapes and sizes. Nature is also the greatest teacher, with endless possibilities to see rich concepts in action. A nature immersion model provides organic learning opportunities, as children learn in and through the natural environment while gaining valuable hands-on experiences.
